Greetings Eighth Graders and Parents,

Due to the situation we now find ourselves with the school closing, here are some important points to know as adapt to our new arrangement.

  1. The first place to check will be on the school’s website www.saintpiusv.org. Once you are on it, you go to Eighth Grade where you will find the assignments and information from me.
  2. You will use my email mzacek56@gmail.com to contact me, and I will be available during school hours from 7:30 am until 3pm.
  3. Here are the assignments to start you off. You can check the website for any new additions or updates. I will post new assignments and updates, just like we do our assignment books , at 2:30 pm.

ASSIGNMENTS:

Monday, March 17, 2020

Here are some things to start you off for the beginning of the week.

Religion: Work on the shield for Confirmation. Adapt to the materials you have, but find a way to complete the 4 quadrants of the shield with the necessary information.

English : You have the pages to begin working on your persuasive essay. Each of the pages is a part of the essay. Choose a topic that will lend itself to the persuasive essay category. Do the drafts in your notebook, before you write a clean copy on the appropriate component sheet.

Social Studies : Set up the headings and vocabulary for Ch. 27 Section5 in your notebook.

Math : Lesson 79. First try to do the practice problems. A is like an evaluation problem. Follow the steps for an evaluation problem and then solve for the Ra. For problem b, you do an evaluation problem and include the skills from using substitution. Try it. You then will do the even problems for the set. If you have booklet paper, use it. If not, use your notebook.

Those things should get you started. Check the site for updates and assignments.

Stay healthy and safe,

Mr. Z.

From Ms. Roberts,

Please make sure you are added to our Google classroom if you have not done so already. The correct class code is available if you email Ms. Riberts. I will post any updates and assignments on our website.

Take care!

7:30 am

Good morning to all my Peeps and Cheryl and Pam,

We begin our new adventure together, and we will keep in contact and continue our work .  My first task for you is to email me today , so I know who is out there.  Let me know what’s up with you and what devices you are able to use to contact me.  Some of your parents have my number for texting.  I will keep updating on the school site, so check that often.

*****If someone can text Annaira to check the website, I would appreciate it.  Thanks to all of you who showed up on Friday to get your things.

I look forward to hearing from you today.

                                                                                    Mr. Z.

Day 1 assignments and notes

It was great to have heard from some of you today.  This is a work in progress, and I look forward to hearing from all of you.   Some of you have probably started on the beginning assignments.  So for today let us try to accomplish the following:

Math-  read over lesson 79 and begin to do the odd numbered problems.  You can check those because the answers are in the back of the book.  I will send an attachment tomorrow which will go over  the practice and a few other problems.

English-  try to complete the first page of the essay packet.  Decide on a topic, do the pros and cons and come up with a thesis statement.  Send me the thesis statement, so I can see it to let you know if you can move on to the next page.

Social Studies-   complete the set up for sect.5 and do the vocabulary.  Begin reading the section.

Religion – read pages 25 -27 in the Confirmation book.   Do one bullet for each paragraph and copy the key words on page 25 in your notebook.

In the attachment tomorrow will be questions for you to work on for the different subjects, as well as the math.

Set a schedule for yourself, check the site in the morning and then between 2:30 and 3 for the new assignments.  Any questions, email me.

See you tomorrow. Mr. Z.

Greetings Peeps,

We are into our Day 2, and I have been very happy to hear from 6 of you and am waiting to hear from the rest. I’m working to get this set up for you, so I will be posting sites for you to go to help you out. Email me when you have questions.

Math: We will work on Lesson 79 in math which there is an attachment I have sent you, and I will post it on the site.

Vocabulary- if you have your book …great. If you don’t, and even if you do, go to www. Vocabularyworkshop.com and find level d. We will pick up with lesson 14. You will do the exercises, use the site for extra help, and then your job will be to create your test for the unit which will build off of our previous tests. I will post the test for episode 13 today. Do the test, send me your answers, and then start thinking what the next step for the ragamuffins will be . This is your writing and vocab assignment. It takes time, so do the unit first, read the test, and then start planning episode 14. Take some time to do some research on the time and place , so you can add some historical facts to our historical/ science fiction series. There are plenty of things on youtube about East Prussia during the WW2. The episode from you should be ready by Monday, March 23. Remember to include a bonus from the previous unit. Have fun with it.

Religion- From the shield you are working on, send me a 250 word essay on why you chose the saint. You should be able to develop three reasons why the saint was chosen. Use your research. Continue working on the shield and send me picture of it when you have it done. The essay I should have by Friday, and we will set a time for the completed shield for next week.

This should get you started on some new assignments. Again, email your questions and check the site between 2:30 and 3:00 for new items. Wednesday I will have Lesson 80 for math .

Social Studies- We will continue with section 5. Work on the identify part and then after you have read the section, send me your responses to the comp questions 4, 5, and 6. We will take a quiz on the section at the end of the week which I will post for you later this week.

March 18,2020

Greetings Peeps,

It was nice to hear from a few more of you.  This is a work in progress for all of us.   Hold off on sending me photos of your work for now.  I’m glad you are keeping busy.

I have an attachment for Lesson 80 in math posted.

For our Reading assignment, we will be reading the story “Charles” by Shirley Jackson.  If you don’t have the book, you can find the pdf of the text online.   Once you have read it, you can work on the questions on page 350 ( 1-4)  It is a fun story to read.

For Religion we have the essay on why the saint was chosen…don’t send that to me yet.  You can also be working on the other quadrants on the shield.

For Social Studies, you have the comp questions and other parts of section 5 to do.   I will post a quiz on the section on Thursday.

For Vocabulary, you have the new assignment that deals with lesson 14.  I will do a test for it as well.   You can go to www.vocabularyworkshop.com  and look for level d to get the words and activities.   I will set a date for next week for the episode that you will be writing.

English… some of you have moved on to developing the support paragraphs and others are fixing up the thesis statement.  Work on that and I will let you know how to submit it.

Hold off on sending pictures of work until I explain how we will submit work.  I appreciate your patience.

                                                                            Thanks,

                                                                             Mr. Z.
