V-I-C-T-O-R-Y: Victory!

We are so proud of all of our school finalists of the Council III Spelling Bee. This year, St. Pius V School had a few winners! We would like to congratulate 5th grade student Izabel and 7th grade student Madalyn on winning 1st place in their sections in the Spelling Bee for Council III of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic Schools! We also had a few other impressive performances: Arturo came in at 2nd place for 5th grade, Alexa finished in 3rd place for 4th grade and Rebecca came in at 3rd place for 3rd Grade! We are very proud of them all. We would like to congratulate these students and all of the others who participated. Well done!

8th Grade Student Surprises Mrs. Nasko on the Radio, Shares her Love for SPV

Earlier this year, the hosts of Catholic Community of Faith on Relevant Radio 950 invited our principal, Mrs. Nancy Nasko, to join them on their show. They wanted to recognize and celebrate the Distinguished Principal Award Mrs. Nasko recently received. What they didn’t tell her is that they had also invited Alex Moreno, an 8th grade student here at SPV, to surprise Mrs. Nasko on the air! Both ladies did an amazing job and made all of us so proud. Alex not only surprised (and thrilled!) Mrs. Nasko, she also delivered a beautiful, glowing testimonial to her time here at Pius. We are proud to share this excellent interview. Congratulations again, Mrs. Nasko, and job well done, Alex!

Once a Stranger, Now our Brother: Thank you, Andy Vaughan!

Andy Vaughan

St. Pius V School was recently visited by Andy Vaughan, a young man who is truly living our school motto: “Making a World of Difference!” Andy delivered a stack of checks totaling a donation of more than $1,000! Even though he had never met any of our students or visited our school, he decided to ask his friends and family to save $1 each day for a month to contribute to SPV.

The Office of Catholic Schools Presents: “These Are Our Teachers”

Educating a classroom full of students is far from easy. It takes determination, commitment and a whole lot of energy to ensure that every child develops the skills they need to succeed in high school and beyond. This video from the Archdiocese of Chicago Office of Catholic Schools explores the reasons that our schools – particularly here at St. Pius V – have such dedicated teachers. We are proud to say that our very own staff and students are featured prominently throughout the video, so take a look and keep an eye out for some familiar faces! Click here to see a video.

The St. Pius V School Chess Team Kicks off their Inaugural Season!

Chess Club Tournament - Small

Last year, St. Pius V School started our Chess Club, a before school program for students interested in learning how to play chess or wanting to improve their skills. This year, thanks to the guidance of our new volunteer chess coach Mr. Brian Beck, SPV introduced our very first Chess Team! Students on this team have already begun their season by competing in the Chicago Latino Chess Championship at Lozano Library and at the 84th Knights Quest Tournament in Northbrook, Illinois. Our team is playing very well, but more importantly, students are learning and having fun at the same time. Good luck, Chess Team!

SPV was visited by some of history’s most influential (and adorable!) saints to celebrate All Saints Day. Students also visited the Offrenda dedicated to our lost loved ones in honor of Dia de los Muertos and All Souls Day. What a beautiful mass!
